Description: Now Complete! A collaboration with Santa Barbara Architect David Van Hoy. The client wanted to add a master bedroom suite and a new living area to a single story home in a beach side Mesa neighborhood in Santa Barbara. The existing house is an original tract home with exposed framing and T&G ceilings which all creates the feel of a beach shack. The owner did not want the house to lose that feeling so elements of the original design are carried thru the addition but in a modern way. The master bedroom roof seemingly floats above, held aloft by exposed posts and beams to allow light to stream in from all sides. The new architecture blends with the old in a respectful way that blends well with the surrounding area.

The kitchen will be remodeled and a pantry and laundry room included. The site presented many challenges due to the zoning parameters and the various neighborhood concerns as a result the second floor addition was crafted in such a way to avoid impacting the neighbors privacy and views to the ocean.
